Increase engagement with your DIY and Creativity Pins with Pinterest’s New “How-To” Rich Pin. Get the low down here at PinRight.
Pinterest is already massively well know for it’s how to’s and DIY pins (after all one of the most popular pins on Pinterest are recipes).
It makes complete sense for Pinterest to include a specific rich pin for brands to showcase the steps to create their desired product.
A “How-To” Rich pin will show the step by step images to create the product or recipe that the person is showing.
The idea behind it is to prevent users having to click through to the website and hope that the steps are outlined in the person’s website somewhere down the article. They can simply see a brief summary (4 images) of how it comes together through step by step pictures.
At present the “How To” Rich Pin is only available to be created by big brands as the roll out starts today in the UK, US, France, and Germany on Android and web browsers (iOS still to come).
You’ll start seeing them pop up on your news feeds and you’re welcome to start repinning them to your boards (definitely a good idea to get some of these repinned to spice up your current boards). However the tech behind creating them hasn’t been released as yet.
Clicking on the images or the “Visit” button will still take you to the corresponding page/article however it does mean you can see more information on screen without having to leave the app.
Will this affect traffic to your website?
We don’t think so as you’ll notice more engagement with your pins and brand on Pinterest, thus increasing the likeliness of them wanting to visit your site for the full breakdown.
Also, it’ll mean no more having to try and create long form pins with multiple “how to” images on!
When it becomes available we’ll definitely let you know, it’s normal for Pinterest to roll out these features to top brands first before filtering them further down to all Pinterest Accounts.
